Massimo Bertacco (1970) was born in a village close to Venice (Italy). He studied Psychology at the University of Trieste where he also achieved his PhD in 2004. The results of his doctoral dissertation are now published in international scientific journals. During his PhD, Massimo spent 5 months at the University of Texas at Austin collaborating with prof. William Swann and prof. James Pennebacker. The study of Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC) and identity processes (e.g. self-esteem and self-concepts) are some of his scientific interests. As for psychotherapy, Massimo trained as psychologist at the counseling center of the Noale Hospital (Venice). Subsequently, he worked as a psychologist at the addictions unit of the Health Department of Trieste. It is here where he began to work as group therapist for the treatment of alcoholism. From 2005 to 2007, Massimo worked in a community center for the treatment of alcohol and cocaine addictions in the district of Venice.

In the autumn of 2007, he moved to Barcelona where he is actually working as psychotherapist in a center for addictions. He is also collaborating with the University of Barcelona and the RET Institute of Barcelona. Massimo makes use of Rational Emotional Behavioral Therapy. This therapeutic model emphasizes the fact that emotional disturbance virtually always involves a more or less conscious rigid, over-generalized, absolutistic thinking.
